The Restaurants' Page
These are our infamous restaurant reviews. If the restaurant in question is not listed here, then either we have never eaten there or we have eaten there but it's not one of our favorites. In other words, these are all positive reviews of places where we regularly eat and which we would recommend in Summit County (and a couple in Vail).
This page will change as we discover new gastronomical delights!
$ = unusual value for money
$$ = average Summit County restaurant prices (roughly $10 per person)
$$$ = more expensive, but worth it, (roughly $17 - $26 per person)
Dillon / Silverthorne area:

La Perla ($) Very reasonably priced authentic Mexican. The place is very busy around noon...go early! Great food, and some serious hot sauces, including one made from onions and fresh habaneros and another made from freshly roasted peppers. Yeehaa. |
|
Pug Ryan's Steakhouse ($$$) My very favorite for its wonderful prime rib. The crab filet is fabulous, as well. |
![]() |
Mountain Lyon Cafe ($) Breakfast and lunch only. Locals' favorite...good food & great value. |
![]() |
Bootlegger's. ($$) Formerly "Wild Bill's". Some of the best in the county. They close early in off-season. Call first. |
![]() |
Fiesta Jalisco ($$) Wonderful Mexican. This place can be really busy...go early. There are two...one in Breckenridge, one in Dillon/Silverthorne. |
![]() |
Dillon Dam Brewery ($$) Home-brewed beers, good food and huge portions. |
![]() |
Old Chicago ($$) A chain, but decent food and huge selection of beers! |
![]() |
Village Inn ($$) A chain. Decent food, decent prices. Breakfast anytime. |
![]() |
Ruby Tuesday's ($$) A chain, similar to TGI Friday's. Good food; menu is not the same as Ruby Tuesday's in Denver, however. The ribs are pretty good! |
![]() |
The Smiling Moose Deli ($) in the Summit Place Shopping Center next to Nick-N-Willy's (below) . Great soups. Sandwiches aren't bad, either. |
![]() |
The Red Mountain Grill. ($$) Outstanding decor, a good, reasonably priced menu. |
![]() |
Nozawa ($$) Sushi. Pretty good. |
| The Bamboo Garden. ($$) Best Chineese food in the county. | |

Red Ram Restaurant and Saloon ($$) Best ribs around, hands down. Very good value. Pretty good Mexican, too. |
Keystone: (pictures coming some time before the next millenium [3000])

Papa's Deli : ($) Across the street from the resort. Good, reasonably-priced food and good friendly service. |
| Ski Tip Lodge: ($$$$--yes folks, four $ signs!) In an old log home, once a stage coach stop. Very gourmet. Eating here is not just a meal, it's a wonderful experience. But it ain't cheap. But we haven't eaten there recently....just too much food! | |
| Keystone Ranch : ($$$$) Another of the Keystone restaurants. Wonderful food, and 'way too much of it. I had a Grand Mariner souflee for dessert...truly memorable. | |
![]() |
Alpenglow Stube: ($$$$--yes folks, four $ signs!) At the top of the second gondola. Warm slippers supplied in the winter. We've only eaten here once...it's very expensive. Restaurants like this are more of an "experience" than a simple meal. The experience lasted 2.5 hours. Normal prices are $82 per person, plus drinks and tip. Two-for-one's are offered infrequently, off season. |
Frisco area:
| Q-4-U ($$) Good barbeque. Eat in or take out. Lousy atmosphere, though! | |
|
Silverheels at the Ore House ($$$) They have a "tapas" bar, and a wonderful variety of trout. Owned by Bob Starekow, who ran the now-defunct "Silverheels" in Wildernest. Good food. |
![]() |
Food Hedz. ($$) Breakfast and lunch only, around $7.50. The chefs came from Keystone Ranch...great food and a non-descript location in the Wal-Mart shopping center. Well worth the time! |
|
Himalayan Cuisine ($$) Indian / Nepalese food. They have a lunch buffet, highly recommended, for 7.95. Definitely something deliciously different. Right next to "Summit Gold". |
|
The Boatyard Grill and Pizzeria ($$$) Interesting menu with lots of unusual but delicious stuff. Good, reasonably-priced lunch menu, too. |
Fast food: Taco Bell, A&W Root Beer, Wendy's
Breckenridge:
|
Downstairs at Eric's ($$) I love this place. Good burgers and pizza, but we usually order the seafood chowder and a salad...very tasty and not too pricey. Kind of like a college bar....the place is usually packed! |
|
Spencer's ($$) Great salad bar buffet for lunch. They have an incredible $7.95 lunch buffets during summer season...amazing deal. In the Beaver Run Resort building. |
|
Hearthstone ($$$) Old Victorian house...good food and service. We never eat here unless it's 2-for-1 during off season...too expensive otherwise! |
![]() |
Rasta Pasta ($) Good pasta, great prices in a cheesy Rastafarian atmosphere. |
|
Briar Rose ($$$) Good prime rib, also some exotics like elk and ostrich. Small, intimate atmosphere, good service. Check the Summit Daily for the "Early Bird Special", which, if available, means if you're in by 5 and out by 6:15 you get two for one! Be sure to check in the paper for other 2-for-1 coupons. |
Vail: (we don't eat in Vail very often so don't expect pictures anytime soon. Or ever for that matter.)
Hubcap Brewery ($$) Good burgers and home-brewed beer.
Dos Amigos: ($$) mild Mexican at the base of the Vista Bahn lift.
Ore House: ($$) General menu.
Idaho Springs:

Tommyknocker Brewery. ($$) Spectacular chili and good homebrew beer. |
