Welcome to HighCountryAerie.com's
When we bought our townhome here in Summit County back in '98, we were told that, yes, we'd have a lot of guests. We didn't really believe it, basing our beliefs upon our experiences in Ohio. Well....this ain't Ohio. It's not unusual for us to have 15 - 20 overnight guests over the period of a year here in Summit County. I guess we've just developed more magnetic personalities after moving....or...<gasp> MAYBE it's the incredible scenery and variety of mountain sports available here. Anyhow, we finally finished converting our guest room into a "dormitory", with two sets of bunk beds. Our friends and acquaintences are welcome to visit, but we hope they'll read the rest of the guest pages, and abide by our wishes, and "read the fine print".
Living where we do, house guests, both long and short term, are a common occurrence. In the past couple of years we have learned a lot about what our guests want, and how their being here affects our personal lives. Here's some information that will help us all to get along.
First and foremost, we would ask you to remember that we are on a relatively fixed income, and we simply cannot afford mass subsidies for house guests! NO lodging is free, and when you stay here, our expenses go up to some degree, perhaps for such relatively trivial things as water and natural gas to heat that water. But you say "that can't be much". You're right, but remember that you're not the ONLY guests we've had this year!
Accommodations: We have a guest bedroom and a guest bathroom. The guest bedroom contains two sets of extra long (adult size) bunk beds (four beds). If the visiting group is larger and we have sufficient advance warning and the visit is going to be in "off season" (i.e. not prime ski season or July / August) we may be able to find you some decent accommodation deals. Also see http://www.wildernest.com for close-by accommodations. Please do not ask to sleep on our living room sofa or in other "public" areas in the house. The decks, however, are always available. <grin> E-mail us for further information (link on home page). If you'd rather have a condo of your own in Frisco, check out the Rhodes Mountainside site.
Food: There are many good restaurants in the area. See the restaurants page for some recommendations. Please be sensitive to our limited income, and visit City Market or Safeway for food supplies if your stay is going to be a long one!
Entertainment: The county is generally pretty quiet after hours. I think people must be tired after being active outdoors all day. There is an 8-screen movie theater in Dillon, and there are free concerts on Saturday evenings during July and August at the Dillon Amphitheater. There are lots of clubs at the resorts and in Breckenridge, if that's your thing. We have access to a number of movies for your (and our) viewing pleasure, in our home theater as well. E-mail me for a current list (e-mail link on home page).
